Taushet Er Gull

"On the edge". That should be easy to draw. I take the paper and pencil, turns the hour glass and starts drawing. Come on, come on, can't you see that this is an edge? No, not a tie, an EDGE!

More info

Taushet er gull (Silence Is Gold) is a drawing game of the same type as Pictionary.

All players receive a playing piece and place this on start. Whoever rolls highest on the die starts. When it is a players turn he picks up the top card and reads the word or phrase written on it (none of the other players must see the word). Then he takes a piece of paper and the pencil, turns the sand timer and starts to draw the word or phrase written on the card. While he draws the other players should shout out what they think he is drawing. They might guess as many times they wish. If a player guesses the correct word he can roll the die and move his own and the drawers counter as many squares as the die roll shows.

Next drawer will be the player sitting to the left of the player who drew earlier, regardless of who guessed the correct word.

If none of the players guesses the correct word or phrase before the sand runs out of the sand timer, the next player reads the card and continues to draw. The other players (except the one who started to draw this word) continues to guess. If no one gets it right this time either, the card is passed over to the third player. Neither of the players who have seen the card might guess now. It will go on like this until someone guesses the correct word or there are no one left to guess.

There are some squares on the game board that calls for special action. If you land on a square marked with SWITCH HAND you will have to draw with your "wrong" hand. The square marked TWICE THE TIME means that you get twice the time to draw.

Winning the game

Winner is the player who first guesses a correct word when his counter is on the last square.

Playing as a team

You may also play the game as two team against each other. When playing as two teams it is only the players on the same team as the drawer who is allowed to guess. If they guess the correct word they receive one point. If they do not guess correct the other team gets ten seconds to see if they guess better. If they do find the correct word they receive one point instead. Then game continues with the other team to draw and guess. In team play, winners are the team that first gets ten points.

Summary

Taushet Er Gull is not in the shops anymore. Hasbro has bought MB (who published this game) and they also have the rights to Pictionary (the original draw/guess words game) and I guess they didn't want two identical games. Nowadays the MB logo is printed on Pictionary-box instead.

Personally, I think Pictionary is the best of the three draw/guess word games I've played. The words and phrases in Taushet Er Gull is much to difficult, while as the ones in Fantasi are to easy. The words in Pictionary seems to be of the right difficulty level. Pictionary also has the "All teams draw"-feature, so I think this is the best buy. (But then again, Pictionary costs more than twice as much as Fantasi).
