Sandnesspillet

My turn. If I roll a five now I will land on "dividend payment". Then I will get to chose which shares the other players will have to put up for auction. I know for sure what share we need Peter to lose, because as long as he has all the purple shares he will receive 20 000 each time someone lands on one of the purple squares!

More info

Sandnesspillet (The city of Sandnes - game) is Sandnes' version of "the city games" that were released in the middle of the 1980's. A lot of cities and towns had their own version. You could pick up, among others, Bergenspillet, Stavangerspillet and Kleppspelet. They all had the same gameplay and rules, and only the shares, event cards and design were altered from version to version. Unlike the other games I've seen in this series, Sandnesspillet was not released by the local YMCA but by Sandnes Tennis Club.

Playing Sandnesspillet

In Sandnesspillet you move your counter along the edge of the game board in the same way as in Monopoly. When you land on a square marked with a company you might buy a share in this company. All companies are grouped together with two other companies and the more shares you have of one group the more money you can make (...or lose). There are two shares of every company so the most you can have is six shares of the same color (group). If a player stops on a square where you own a share you might demand payment from him. The amount of money he has to pay is listed on the share. Also the more shares you've got of this color the more he'll have to pay you.

If you land on a square that's occupied by another player then you have crashed into him. You must then pay him a compensation of kr. 1,000,-

If a player lands on a square or draws an event card that says "New share value" this player draws the top "New share value"-card. On this card there are printed new value of all the shares. Now two actions need to be taken:

  • Dividend payments and loss: If the card tells that a share is raising in value, i.e. "yellow shares +1000", all players with yellow shares will receive a dividend payment of 1000 kroner for each yellow share he owns. A share can also go down and then the players need to pay the bank for each share they've got of the spesific color.
  • Shares on auction: The player who drew the event card or landed on the square that trigged dividend payment will now chose one share from each player that must be sold to the highest bidder. The players can not bid on their own shares and if no one bids a share the owner must sell it to the bank for half its printed (original) value.

If you ever runs out of money you can always sell shares to the bank for half it's value. The players may also buy and sell shares between themselves. If you don't have enough money to pay, and you don't have any shares to sell, you are out of business and must leave the game.

Winning the game

The player who is left when all the others are out of business is declared the winner. Or you can play a certain amount of time (i.e. an hour) and the player with the most money (including shares) will be the winner.

The shares

The shares you can buy in this game is:
