September already? Then it's time to harvest. Crops looking mighty fine this year. Wonder if I'll afford to buy some more land at the end of the year? Hopefully I'll be able to buy a bigger farm than Peter...

"Gøy på landet" means "fun in the countryside" and is a name of a Norwegian childrens song.
In this game the players take the role of farmers. By sowing vegetables an grain every spring and harvest at the end of every year the players shall gain so much money that they can afford to buy the local palace.
The players move their playing pieces along the outer border of the game board. There are 108 squares and they are divided into 4 seasons and 12 months, so that one trip around the game board is one year. In the middle of the game board there is a picture showing the village and the different properties and forests the players can own. For every new year each player decides which of the six available grains and vegetables to sow. He then buys as many growth counters of these types that he wants (or can afford) an then sows them on his fields. Now the players need to make it grow as much as possible, so that they can have plenty to sell when harvesting in August or September. Some squares are marked with an X. When a player stops at one of these he might draw a growth card. On the growth cards there are written a number from one to three and this number shows how many new growth counters the player can add to his fields. (But it has to be of one of the sorts that he's already sowed). When you decide to harvest you count all the growth counters on your fields and returns them to the bank and receive money for them. How much money you get for each growth counter decides on the size of your farm. (Larger farms can grow more). There are three different sizes of the farms, and players should buy a larger one as soon as they can afford it. Some of the other squares on the board lets the players draw event cards. There are four different piles of event cards, one for each season. The event cards can bring good or bad news, and it might happen only to the player drawing the card or to all players. Examples of event cards:
New yearWhen a player has moved his playing piece all the way around the board (i.e. gone through a whole year) he might not start on a new round(as in Monopoly) but he has to wait until all the players have gone through the year as well. Then the players can buy a larger farm, buy or sell forests, new growth counters and new insurance policies. When all players are done trading, you start on with a new year.Winning the gameThe first player to buy the palace is the winner.Reader commentsJan Fitjar:Heisann!
