Kokelimonke

Next word up is "Sanddollar". What might that mean? Have to think of something smart here, an explanation that the other players will believe is the correct one. Let me think... dollar - it's got to have something to do with money... Yes, I know: Sanddollar, that's slang talk for arabian money! At least Bente is gonna beleive that this is the correct explanation...

More info

In this game you need to guess the correct meaning of a given word and at the same time trick the other players into beleiving that your explanation of the word is the correct one. (I beleive this game is called Balderdash in English).

All players receive a playing piece that they put on the start square. The game board consists of 19 squares from start to goal.

When it's a players turn he draws a card. On this card there are 5 different words. They are all strange and odd words that are not used in every-day speech. The correct meaning of the words are written on the backside of the card. It is not very likely that any of the players have ever heard the words before. The player who drew the card now rolls the die to see which of the words to use. (If he rolls a 6 he choses himself which one of the five words to use).

He then reads the word out loud and the other players are now writing down an explanation of the word. The one who drew the card writes down the correct explanation. He then picks up all the explanations, including the correct one, mixes them and read them all up loud. The other players now tells which one of the explanations they think is correct.

Points

When all players have told which explanation they think is the correct one, points are received after the the following rules:
  • 3 points to the one (if any) who wrote down the correct explanation on the note
  • 2 points for the ones that guessed the right explanation
  • 1 point for each of the other players who thought your false explanation was the correct one
  • 3 point is awarded to the player who drew the card if no one guessed the correct explanation
When all the points are received each player moves his counter as many squares as the number of points he received. Then a new turn starts and another player draws a card and rolls the die.

Winning the game

The player who first gets to the last square on the game board wins.

A great game

Kokelimonke is a great get-together game that I highly recommend. The words, which of course are "real" words - not fictious ones, are so unusual that this can not be classified as a knowledge game. The most valuable skills for this game are probably fast-thinking and persuation.
