Inn Eller Ut

In "Inn eller Ut" (eng:In or Out) the players are up to see who is the most trendy amongst them. By voting over various subjects you will find out who knows most about what's trendy at the moment.

The game

Before the game starts you shuffle the 36 fashion cards and places them face down on the table. Each player receives a playing piece that he places on START and a set of trend cards. The trend cards consists of one In card, one Out card, one Mega-In card and one Mega-Out card. The game board shows a trendy cafe where the entrance is the START and GOAL fields and field 8 is a bar disk. In addition to these fields there are 13 fields from START to GOAL. On each field there is marked a letter, A, B or C.

On each fashion card there is written nine words, three under A, three under B and three under C. This can be all kind words, for example skate boards, clowns, Disneyland. When it is a players turn he picks up the topmost fashion card and reads out loud one of the three words under the letter corresponding with the letter his playing piece is on. Now all plyers (including the one that read the word) decide whether this "thing" is out or in, i.e. is trendy or not. The players pick up the trend card that matches what they think and places it face down on the table in front of him. On the count of three all players reveal their cards. If the majority of the players have played an IN card the word/subject is thought to be trendy, if the majority have played an OUT card the word/subject is not trendy. In case of a tie the active players vote acts as a tie-breaker. The players who were on the "winning side" gets to move one field forward, the others will have to move one field backwards.

Then it is the next players turn. He picks up the next fashion card, picks one the words, reads it out loud and then it is a new vote. Those who vote according to the majority gets to move one field forward, the others will have to move one field backwards.

Mega-In and Mega-Out

During a vote, if you are sure that the word is in, you might play a Mega-In instead of a regular In card. (Or play a Mega-Out instead of a regular Out card). If you are on the "winning side" after having played a Mega card, you might move two fields ahead instead of only one. If you were wrong you will have to move to fields backwards instead.

Winning the game

Winner of the game is the player who is first to reach the goal field. To get to the goal field you will have to play a MEGA card. You may not move into goal if you've only played a regular IN- or OUT-card, even if you were on the "winning side".

Summary

I guess I'm not a trendy person, at least this was not a game I liked. It is too boring, too little is happening and it is the same actions over and over again: you draw a card, vote, move your counter, draw a card, votes, move and so on until one person has managed to get all the way to the goal field. When I bought this game it was on sale, 75% off, so I guess it has not been a big sales success for Ravensburger. This game is not recommended!
