A tactical football boardgame for two players (teams).
|
Fotball is a tactical boardgame for two players (teams), where knowledge of real football can determine the outcome. The game comes with two sets of rules, one for junior players (minimal football knowledge) and one for senior players (with good football knowledge). Each team choses their play system, for example 5-4-1 or 4-4-2, and many of the real football situations and techniques do occour in this game, like dribbling, tackling, throw-ins, offside and yellow and red cards.
Game playThis game is mainly played with dice, but not in the traditional way. Depending on how far you are kicking the ball, you're rolling various special dice, with the main rule being that the closest player receives the ball. If the ball ends between two players from different teams, the ball's direction is decided by rolling the tackling dice. Movement is done by the team currently controlling the ball, and you can move 1, 2 or 3 players in certain zones on the field. Every time the ball lands on a square marked with a dot, the player must draw a situation card. These cards can either have a trivia question (about football, of course) that has to be answered correctly before you can move on, or they can describe a situation on the field that has to be executed (for example yellow and red cards, foul play, etc.). The players can score a goal from certain scoring squares near the opposite goal. These scoring squares have two numbers, describing how difficult it is to score from this position. The attacking team must roll higher than the first number to score, but the keeper can save by rolling higher than the second number.EvaluationTo be a boardgame developed in Norway, Fotball is not bad at all. It sure is an advantage to have interest in football (and quite a few people have that), since you need to answer trivia question during the game. But the basic mechanics in the game is pretty good and there are a lot of tactical choices. Fotball is a quick game so it will always pay to be active instead of reactive. No long term strategies here, but still entertaining. Maybe it just reflects much of the real game of football? If so, that sure is a good reference!Reader commentsimran:it is a good game but i am making a similar board game for graphics (GCSE) could you please send me information on to my email about how to play the boardgame with a formattion of 4-4-2 and also could you send me the pitch layout by it self.Glenn Pettersen: Heisann.
